Assessed every four months, the index aims to spark discussions about climate change in Brazil
Having sustainability as one of its pillars, M. Dias Branco has just announced its inclusion in B3 Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2 B3) in 2025, reinforcing its commitment to efficiency in the management of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and practices aimed at climate transition.
Created in 2010, ICO2 B3 is an important tool for fostering discussions about climate change in Brazil, promoting the adoption of strategies that contribute to reducing emissions and building a low-carbon future.
“Joining ICO2 B3 reflects M. Dias Branco’s commitment to reducing GHG emissions and transitioning to a low-carbon future.” says Daniella Pessoa, M. Dias Branco’s Climate and Environmental Strategy Manager, and responsible for climate change management in the Company. The executive explains that “M. Dias Branco’s daily work is focused on managing the efficiency of processes, engaging the supply chain and managing emissions throughout the value chain, always attentive to the risks and opportunities related to climate change.” For her, consistent execution and continuous monitoring of results, through robust indicators that represent the company’s progress, have been fundamental to the results achieved on the climate agenda.
ICO2 B3 Methodology
To be included in ICO2 B3, an index assessed every four months, companies must meet strict criteria, such as being among the 75% of companies with the lowest emission coefficients per revenue; and having a GHG Emissions Management Score (SGEE) higher than or equal to the arithmetic mean, minus the standard deviation of the economic sector to which they belong on B3.
With the revised methodology, valid from January 2025, the assets that make up the Broad Brazil Index (IBrA B3) will be eligible for the index, expanding the representativeness and relevance of the portfolio.
At M. Dias Branco, a large part of the figures achieved in the climate agenda are the result of the Descarbonize Program, made up of 10 pillars that cover the main initiatives of the company’s climate transition plan. These fronts include the management of scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions and the engagement of the entire value chain. Since 2020, M. Dias Branco has achieved a consistent reduction in emissions, in line with the planning and goals established in its 2030 ESG Strategic Agenda.
Descarbonize Program
M. Dias Branco’s decarbonization journey started with actions aimed at the energy transition, making progress in the percentage of renewable energy in the energy matrix, the insourcing of emissions data for suppliers and the development of initiatives aimed at efficiency in production processes.
And with the aim of reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in operations throughout the entire value chain, M. Dias Branco launched, in 2023, Descarbonize, its Climate Transition Program is made up of 10 pillars covering all areas of the company: Transition to a renewable energy matrix; Reduction of Carbon Intensity in Industrial Units; Transition to a renewable fuel matrix; Development of Low Carbon products; Development of suppliers of sustainable ingredients and packaging; Integration of Processes; Value chain engagement; Financial investment with a positive impact; Positive Influence and Impact; Development of sustainable operations in logistics.
One of the main purposes of the program is to achieve a 20% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions (base year 2020) by 2030, a target established in the company’s ESG 2030 Strategic Agenda, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
