Based on the data reported through CDP’s 2023 Climate Change questionnaire, M. Dias Branco is among a select number of companies that achieved an ‘A’ grade in the CDP Climate (Disclosure Insight Action) A List ranking, out of more than 21,000 companies assessed, according to an announcement made today (6) by the non-profit organization.
CDP is a global reporting organization on initiatives for the strategic management of climate change, which covers various categories including the management of risks and opportunities, and initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Through a detailed and independent methodology, CDP assesses companies, assigning a score from A to D, based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and evidence of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and significant targets.
With the world’s largest environmental database, CPD guides investment and procurement decisions towards a zero-carbon, sustainable and resilient economy.
“We are honored to have been placed on CDP’s A List for our leadership in environmental transparency. Companies play a crucial role in driving transformative action on climate and nature. Disclosure is a key first step towards effective environmental action and urgent response to the issue. We hope to encourage other companies to do the same and continue to address the issue as a relevant topic within the Strategic Sustainability Agenda,” explains Daniella Pessoa, Climate and Environmental Strategy Manager at M. Dias Branco.
Sustainability Culture
As a way of strengthening the company’s ESG aspects and making a significant contribution to the environment, M. Dias Branco revisited its Strategic Sustainability Agenda in 2022, creating ambitious targets by 2030. The new goals cover 15 priority themes with a set of 18 public targets, based on the three pillars that represent ESG – Caring for the planet (E), Believing in people (S) and Strengthening alliances (G). The document entitled “Our Commitments 2030” was based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN).
Some of the targets include using 90% renewable energy in its operations, using recyclable, compostable and/or biodegradable plastic materials in 100% of plastic packaging and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill to zero in all its operations.
“Our Materiality Analysis process considered the 17 SDGs, bearing in mind Brazil’s targets in the UN’s 2030 Agenda. In order to achieve our goals, we have adopted a corporate governance system that enables the development of goals and engages stakeholders through the creation of Working Groups (WGs). This allows the groups to channel their efforts into specific themes,” she says. “As market leaders, we know the importance of setting an example and promoting comprehensive approaches to economic, social and environmental issues,” he concludes.
